Through these scenarios, the panelists will unpack the legal protections available to employees, the responsibilities of employers, and how organizations can navigate the tension between diversity, equity, inclusion, and expression in the workplace.

The program offers a concise update on key developments on a range of employment law topics. Claire will be presenting on updates in the law on reasonable notice of termination and notice periods.

On May 8, 2025, Dayna Steinfeld will be speaking on the Lancaster House panel “Relative Accommodations: An update on family status discrimination (childcare, eldercare, spousal responsibilities, etc)”.

The webinar will discuss the different tests for prima facie discrimination on the basis of family status across the country, and the uncertainty in the law given the lack of clear guidance from the Supreme Court of Canada. The panel will critically examine how decision-makers address the growing range of family status claims and explore emerging trends in this area of law.

On March 27, 2025, Raphaëlle Laframboise-Carignan presented a webinar to The Dementia Society of Ottawa & Renfrew County.  The session addressed how to navigate workplace concerns as a caregiver, including discussing topics like the employer’s duty to accommodate caregivers and the benefits available to employees in these circumstances.

On March 25, 2025, Keagan Davis-Burns will be participating in a panel discussion with other lawyers in the labour and employment bar and with Queen’s University Faculty of Law professors. The panel discussion, hosted by the Queen’s Law Labour and Employment Club, will provide law students with insights into careers and experiences in labour and employment law.

On March 6, 2025, Keagan Davis-Burns will be participating with her team of Queens Law students as they present to members of the Kingston Chamber of Commerce. The presentation, through Pro Bono Students Canada, will provide members of the Kingston community with free legal information on human rights and the duty to accommodate in the workplace.
