Jessica Greenwood is our firm’s lead lawyer in Kingston. She practices in the areas of labour, employment and administrative law.
Jessica has been successfully advocating on behalf of unions and employees her entire career. Before joining Ravenlaw, Jessica worked at one of the largest trade unions in the country, where she regularly appeared before labour arbitration boards. She also represents individual employees in court, as well as before administrative tribunals, including the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario.
She is a proud Kingstonian and a graduate of the Combined Masters of Industrial Relations/JD program at Queen’s University. She is a keen baker, entry-level gardener and, thanks to her boys, has developed a strong knowledge-base of all things related to excavators, firetrucks and tow trucks.
Adam Gregory is committed to supporting the labour movement as an advocate for workers’ rights. He joined RavenLaw as a summer student in 2021 and completed his articles with the firm. He practices in the fields of labour, employment, administrative, and human rights law.
Adam received his law degree from Queen’s University where he received academic awards in labour, constitutional and administrative law. During law school, he represented low-income clients on landlord-tenant, human rights, and employment matters volunteering with Queen’s Legal Aid. He also worked extensively with the Queen’s Prison Law Clinic, representing federal prisoners and assisting with strategic litigation aimed at addressing systemic issues facing incarcerated people.
Outside of work, Adam enjoys reading, playing with his cat Frida, and watching Arsenal Football Club find new and inventive ways to disappoint him.
Barhilla is an associate practicing in the areas of labour and employment law. She advises and represents clients on labour, employment, administrative, constitutional, and human rights issues.
Barhilla received her JD/BCL from McGill University. She practices law in Ontario and Quebec.
Prior to joining RavenLaw, Barhilla worked at a regional firm where she represented clients in employment matters and Indigenous Law.
In her free time, Barhilla enjoys boxing and checking out Ottawa’s restaurant scene.
Amarkai Laryea maintains a dynamic, fully bilingual practice working to advance the rights of unions, workers, and individuals. He has extensive experience and expertise in all areas of labour, human rights, and administrative law. He provides strategic advice to unions on both internal matters and external campaigns. He also represents athletes in processes including Safe Sport/UCCMS complaints, doping-related disputes, discrimination and discipline.
Amarkai has dedicated his career to working within Canada’s labour movement. Before joining RavenLaw, Amarkai was a leader in the legal services department of one of Canada’s largest unions. He has been an executive union member and staff representative for both private and public sector unions and has experience developing comprehensive organizing campaigns with the Strategic Affairs section of an international union. He also led a new initiative focused on increasing access to justice at a federal tribunal. Amarkai has appeared exclusively on behalf of unions and labour organizations, in both French and English, before Courts, labour arbitrators and administrative tribunals throughout the country.
When not working, Amarkai is usually out and about with his family. A sports fan, he plays basketball and soccer, and volunteers teaching hockey to Black youth with the African Canadian Association of Ottawa. He also played Collegiate soccer and has previously won gold at the Canadian Club Championships.
Amarkai’s lived experience as a Black person continuously impacts his work and community activities. He has been pro bono counsel for the Coalition of Black Trade Unionists Canada. He is a mentor with the McGill Black Alumni Association and a member of the Black Legal Action Centre and the social justice organization Inter Pares.
Anna Lichty is a bilingual lawyer and partner at RavenLaw, where she focuses her practice on employment, human rights, and labour law. She represents both employees and unions, and regularly handles matters involving wrongful dismissal, severance packages, long-term disability benefits, and discrimination.
She appears before various courts and administrative tribunals, including the Ontario Superior Court of Justice, the Federal Public Sector Labour Relations and Employment Board, the Social Security Tribunal of Canada, the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board, the Workplace Safety and Insurance Appeals Tribunal and professional disciplinary committees such as the College of Nurses, the College of Teachers and the College of Pharmacists.
Before practising law, Ms. Lichty held several positions in the federal public service, including as an analyst at the Canada Border Services Agency and as a parole officer with Correctional Service Canada. She also worked as a flight attendant with Air Canada, a testament to her versatility and client-centred approach in her legal work.
Passionate about sports and the outdoors, Anna enjoys practising triathlon in her spare time. She loves running along the Rideau Canal, cycling in Gatineau Park, and spending time with her family and friends.
