Sean McGee practises in the areas of Labour Law, Employment Law, and Litigation. He represents unions across Canada, with a focus on Ottawa, Eastern Ontario, and Toronto.
Sean’s areas of practice include education, health sector, municipal, retail and service, transportation, and public service labour relations. Sean has acted as union counsel in arbitrations and labour board hearings, as well as human rights and other administrative tribunals. He has also argued cases before provincial and federal trial level and appeal courts, as well as the Supreme Court of Canada.
Sean negotiates local and national collective agreements, and has advised unions in numerous other collective bargaining problems. He also represents employees from both the private and public sectors in employment law matters.
He is fluently bilingual and represents his clients in both official languages, including French language hearings.
Sean is a past-president of l’Association des juristes d’expression française de l’Ontario. He is also active in teaching union seminars, lawyer continuing education, and taught the Canada Labour College Annual Labour Law course for many years. Sean was also selected to be included in the 2006-2019 editions of The Best Lawyers in Canada in the practice areas of labour and employment law. He has also been selected as a leading practitioner in the Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory.
Sean is passionate about getting to know his clients on a personal level, and developing a relationship with them. He strives to work with people not only to solve an existing problem, but also to come up with strategies to avoid future issues and build towards their goals. Sean hopes this way to be involved with clients in an on-going capacity. He also loves the creative side of his work and finding unusual approaches to solving problems, particularly when it seems there is no straight line to the solution.
Outside of the office, Sean’s major interest is music. He plays regular gigs with various local bands, and even does recording in his home studio. He is on the Board of Directors of OrKidstra – a group that provides instruments and lessons to your in underserviced areas of Ottawa.
